PERFORMANCE OF MARRIAGE (for orthodox Cypriots)

The future bride and groom must address to the priest of the temple where they want to perform the marriage. Even if the two come from the parish or community where the marriage will take place and are free or have in their hands a church divorce will take from the priest “ a certificate to issue an authorization for marriage”. Having the certificates of birth and analyses on the Mediterranean anaemia (by governmental or private laboratory) will address to the Holy Bishopric of Paphos, 5 -10 days before the performance of marriage for the issue for the authorization for marriage. (For the communities of Bishopric of Arsinoe they will address to the Bishopric of Arsinoe at Peristerona village of Paphos). If the one from the couple does not come from the parish or community in which the marriage will take place, he/she owes to present also a certificate of freedom from the priest of his place of origin. The refugees take certificates of freedom from the Bishopric from which they emanate, and not from the place that remains temporarily. If the woman is a refugee then the authorization of marriage will come out from the Bishopric in which they emanate and it will be presented in the Holy Bishopric of Paphos or Bishopric of Arsinoe for a publication of a new authorization(in this case its better to communicate with the domestic bishopric for the papers they need) .

PERFORMANCE OF MARRIAGE (for orthodox not Cypriots)

It’s required to produce certificate (from both the groom and the bride) that shows they are baptized Christian Orthodox from the church they were baptized. Also they must make a statement in the court that they are free and are not relatives between them. With their passports and the rest papers we report earlier they should go to the bishopric of Paphos and they will take the authorisation for the marriage to take to the priest that will marry them.
